Police in Murang’a are on the spot after shooting dead two suspected bank robbers that had seemingly surrendered.
In the Sunday, March 12, incident, the thugs staged a robbery at Unaitas SACCO Mununga branch, where they made away with an unknown amount of money after disarming a police officer and taking possession of his G3 rifle.
Police said they pursued the suspects in the expansive Kinyona Forest, but they started shooting at the officers, who returned fire, leading to a fierce exchange.
The officers managed to gun down the duo and recovered KSh 1.13 million, two assault rifles and 20 bullets from them.
In an occurrence that has raised suspicion of extra judicial killing, initial photos shared by the police from the scene showed the two suspects cornered with their hands firmly tied.
Social media users questioned how the suspects later managed to free themselves and staged a gunfight that resulted in them being shot dead.
Their bodies were taken to Murang’a Level V Hospital mortuary awaiting identification.
