Meru University staff union has alleged that some students are threatening them with hand grenades after working to oust Vice Chancellor Prof Romanus Odhiambo.
The staff union led by UASU Chairman Victor Mugambi has shown their worry concerning the issue of staff insecurity. They said that some known students have been telling them that they will plant grenades into their houses or their vehicles anytime they meet.
The students in question are said to have been chatting on WhatsApp with some of the lecturers who wanted to oust their VC saying they must revenge for anything they will do. They have been sending threatening messages to their WhatsApp that have made them feel so insecure and so they are asking for the relevant authorities to intervene.
Students, however, show their happiness since their grievances were heard and everything that had been disrupting their learning have been placed in order.
From the students’ point of view, the Lecturers and staff who wanted VC to be ousted are feeling guilty that their plan went unsuccessful. That is why they are trying to create sympathy which might not be possible.
However, according to the staff union, they are insecure due to the message they received from the students.
