Detectives are investigating an incident in which a police officer committed suicide after shooting dead his lover and a neighbour.
The officer identified as Mark Mulanda is reported to have arrived at his house at Mugumoini chief’s camp at around 7PM. He had a heated argument with his lover Rhoda Machuma.
Viola Chepkoet, a wife to another police officer at the camp tried asking the two the cause of the argument with the aim of stopping the fight but Mark Mulanda shot her dead on the spot. He then went straight to the house and shot Rhoda to death before ending his life by hanging himself.
Investigations have since established that Mark Mulanda who had another family in Lugari had shown signs of depression. He had angrily threatened to soon kill three people but nobody took him seriously.
His family members revealed that he was a sober minded and peaceful man who did not love interacting much with people even at social events. They however said that in the past few months, he had issues in his marriage and even parted ways with his wife. He did not open up to anyone on the issues he might have been going through.
