Wilberforce Musyoka is one of the most celebrated vernacular gospel artists in Ukambani and the country at large.
Musyoka has the art of fusing culture, religion and other social issues in his vernacular songs which continue to inspire many people.
The celebrated Kamba vernacular artist has released several inspiring gospel tracks that are played in churches, weddings and social events across the Ukambani region.
Here is what you need to know about the talented Musyoka:
He was born at Mtito Andei in Makueni County.
The music star joined Ivingoni secondary school and later enrolled to Mombasa Aviation Training Institute where he graduated with a Diploma in Mass Communication and Journalism. Upon graduating, the Kamba vernacular gospel star struggled to make ends meet.
Musyoka says he secured a temporary position at a church in Mtito Andei as a guard.
The job was short-lived but again secure another one as a babysitter.
In a phone interview on Thursday, Musyoka said he also worked in the church as a cleaner and that is where his passion for singing started.
“I had the passion and believed in God to grow my singing talent,” Musyoka said.
The Kamba vocalist says it is through working as a church cleaner that he recorded his first album ‘Neteele Nikwone’, a song expressing his earlier life in hardship and his future expectation from God.
Asked on why he prefers singing in native Kamba, Musyoka said that he loves the language and that is what has made him famous in God’s ministry.
As a gospel musician and songwriter, Musyoka says he draws his inspiration from the love of God’s ministry.
One of Musyoka’s hit songs is ‘Uyu ni Ngai’ which is a praise song that means ‘this is God’.
Others hit songs by Musyoka are ‘Ni utanu’, ‘Nienda Mumo’ and ‘Vinya Mwingi’.
Majority of Musyoka’s hits are inspiring and educational and enjoy massive airplay especially in vernacular Kamba FM stations.
Musyoka has a wife, Lilian Mwongeli and is blessed with children.
He advises upcoming gospel music artists not to be misled by the secular world. “Once God is ready to uplift you from your situation there is no one who can stop Him,” Musyoka concludes.
