Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina this morning surrendered his CPAIK chairmanship after he held a meeting with ODM party leader Raila Odinga.

The meeting chaired by the ODM Chief resulted in Ole Kina surrendering the seat and withdrawing the case he had filled against ODM Party over the senate County Public Accounts and Investment Committee chairmanship wrangles.

After Ole Kina agreed to drop the charges and surrender the seat, the ODM boss Raila Odinga then released orders. He directed the party to halt the de whipping of Ole Kina from the senate committee as filled by senator James Orengo.

“Senator Ledama Ole Kina has this morning agreed to withdraw the case he had filed against the ODM party over the Senate Public Accounts Committee chairmanship, surrendered the seat, and apologized. In return I’ve instructed the party to reverse the decision to dewhip the Senator,” Raila tweeted.

The senator had earlier on faced opposition from his own party ODM and Raila had instructed the young senator be de whipped from the chairmanship.

ODM through senator and minority leader James Orengo drafted a protest letter expressing dissatisfaction with the outcome of the election that saw Ole Kina emerge victorious.

“We intend to withdraw our membership from the said committee until an appropriate resolution can be made,” stated Orengo in the letter.

Ledama had been accused of colluding with Jubilee Senators to clinch the committee chair’s position instead of the party’s chair designate, Professor Sam Ongeri.

The powerful watchdog committee is responsible for the oversight of county governments and was previously chaired by Homa Bay Senator TJ Kajwang’, with the position reserved for Minority Senators.

Ledama Ole Kina did not take the ODM’s action lightly which led to a face-off with Ole Kina terming the letter and dismissed Orengo and ODM’s attempt to kick him out saying the letter has “no basis and must be treated with contempt.”

Ole Kina then proceeded to the high court and obtained a temporary order barring ODM from removing him from the said seat.

In addition, Ledama pointed to his spirited defense of issues affecting the Maa community as one of the reasons behind his removal.

He earned unlikely support from allies of Deputy President William Ruto including then-Senate Majority Leader, Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen, who promised to initiate a push to have any Senator regardless of their party allowed to chair the committee.

Thanks to Raila’s decision, Ledama will now be able to sit on the two committees he sat on before the de-whipping but will not regain the Chair position.
