Online streets were on Tuesday morning flooded by posts from a group of organized social media influencers who accused Deputy President Willliam Ruto of among other things, abusing his beautiful wife Rachael Ruto.

Using a photoshopped image that showed close-to-real bruises on the second lady’s face, they launched scathing attacks on the former Eldoret North MP through the explosive hashtag #RutoTheWifeBeater which soon found its way to the top trending topics.

The discussion quickly garnered traction as hundreds of curious Kenyans clicked on the extremely suggestive hashtag to find out more about the outrageous claims.

While in search of the truth on these controversial reports, reporters came across a lengthy Facebook post believed to have been the source of the rumors which quickly spread out to other platforms.

The post titled “SHOCK over Rachael Ruto’s personal steward disappearance in Machakos” was published on Monday May 26 by an outfit named the Weekly Citizen.

In their unverified account, the author of the post made outrageous claims that the apparent incidents of domestic conflict were sparked by the second-in-command’s alleged infidelity.

This information, they purported, is according to confessions by family members of a former female employee at a Mombasa Hotel who reportedly spent a lot of time with Madam Rachael Ruto during her numerous prayer trips down the coast and whom she supposedly often opened up to.

Attached was a doctored image that showed bruises and injuries on her face.

Annoyed by the latest cheap propaganda, netizens have since come to the defense of the deputy president noting that his political opponents are doing everything possible to tarnish his name.

Attempting to shift focus away from the talks, however,  Rachel Ruto took to her Twitter account and posted a message from the Bible’s book of Hebrews 4:16 that says, “Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”

In recent times, Ms. Ruto has been posting messages of encouragement despite the great challenges that Ruto has been going through.
The latest episode comes just days after food donations branded with Ruto’s name were distributed to Kikuyu area in Kiambu county turned poisonous and led to the hospitalization of residents.

Ruto’s footsoldiers defended him terming those behind the act as playing cheap politics while endangering the lives of Kenyans.

Ruto woes…

Meanwhile, details of a secret meeting between Deputy President William Ruto and a section of Mt Kenya leaders have emerged.

The meeting which reportedly took place days before Senator Kithure Kindiki was ousted as Senate Deputy Speaker, was meant to work out a ‘rescue plan’ for the Tharaka Nithi Lawmaker.

A report by the Standard on Tuesday, May 26, detailed that Ruto asked his allies to stay calm in case of a defeat and avoid confrontation with Kenyatta’s camp, further asking them to retreat from the war of words with their colleagues in Parliament.

The DP reportedly met 12 Meru MPs led by area Senator Mithika Linturi at his Karen, Nairobi residence to offer them insight on his approach in his ongoing cold war with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Ruto will also be under the political radar on Thursday as President Uhuru Kenyatta meets with Jubilee’s key decision-making panel, the National Management Committee.

Uhuru will chair the NMC meeting where members of the parliamentary leadership have been invited.

This will be the first NMC meeting since President Kenyatta seized control of Jubilee Party from Ruto’s grip after a successful ‘coup’ last month.
