Liverpool and Senegal forward Sadio Mane has tipped Reds skipper Jordan Henderson to win the English Premier League Player of the Year award.
The England midfielder has been a key part of Liverpool’s record breaking campaign where look certain to clinch their first league title in 30 years. He was also instrumental in guiding Liverpool to winning the Champions League last season. Mane believes he should be named the player of the season.
“I would go for Henderson. He’s been a big part of our success this year, both defensively and in attack. He was really good this year. A really good leader and a great captain,” he said.
The speedy winger also hailed his manager Jurgen Klopp who has worked wonders with the team since he was appointed in the role five years ago. Mane hailed his methods and energy as the major factors that have propelled Liverpool to the top of the pile in European football.
“From day one since I came to Liverpool, he has always been positive with all the players. He gives responsibility to all his players, which can be a big, big part of the development of a football player. It is a big thing for a player to know you are given that responsibility by the coach, which he does to every player on the pitch.
“You are not under pressure. He is really positive, really nice but sometimes he is really hard as well. He is a hard person sometimes. But I’ve never seen any coach in my life as positive as he is,” he added.
Mane has 14 league goals this season.
