Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen on Saturday told the Inspector General(IG) of Police Hillary Mutyambai to take action on one officer captured in a video recording forcing his way to ostensibly engage Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko in a fight.

In a message that he tweeted, the Senator asked the IG to charge the officer with assault.

“@IG_NPS I have seen you want to charge @MikeSonko with assault but please don’t forget to charge that policeman in blue. The uniform only changed but the mindset is the same,” tweeted Murkomen.

In a video recording that went viral on Friday, Governor Sonko was involved in a push and pull with a host of security officers sent to arrest him.

Sonko was recorded engaging the officers in a running battle as he, in all appearances, tried to resist being arrested.

In the same footage, the City Governor finally surrendered but one officer wearing a newly introduced blue police uniform was captured wrestling fellow officers in an attempt to engage Sonko in a fistfight.

It is not clear what provoked the officer to attempt assaulting the Governor but in the footage, Sonko was captured seemingly hurling unfriendly remarks to the officers arresting him.

Fellow security officers, however, blocked the policeman from engaging Sonko as they led the Governor to the helicopter that was on standby.

The incident happened on Friday at the Ikanga airstrip in Voi Subcounty.

The drama followed an order issued by Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Noordin Haji to arrest the Governor over alleged involvement in corrupt activities in his county.

The DPP said on Friday morning that they had gathered sufficient evidence to nail Sonko.

The Governor was taken to EACC police station where he will spend the whole weekend awaiting his arraignment on Monday.
