Impeachment motion against Kiambu County Deputy Governor James Nyoro was on Tuesday filed by a section of his Members of County Assembly (MCAs).

According to reports and documents making rounds on social media, the impeachment motion seeks to oust the Acting Governor over gross violation of the Constitution by assuming office as Governor, abuse of office and physical or mental incapacity to perform his duties as deputy governor.

Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu and His Deputy James Nyoro.

The move comes barely a month after reports indicated that he fuelled the impeachment motion against County Executive (CEC) for Sports Karungo Thangwa.

Thangwa was ousted after he was found guilty of plundering public resources.

The recent developments come as a shocker since the MCAs had sworn that Governor Ferdinand Waititu was next on the line for impeachment.

The embattled Acting Governor took over the leadership of the Kiambu County in August after his boss was implicated in corruption charges.

Nyoro, while taking over, said the move aimed at ensuring service delivery in the county continued effectively.

His journey as Acting boss has been marred with accusations of violating the constitution after he was castigated for firing some CEC and effecting a cabinet shake-up.

However, unbowed by a series of attacks directed at him, Nyoro maintained his stand and warned county chiefs against underperforming.

Nyoro promised to vacate office once his boss is cleared of corruption charges.

However, on November 23rd, Nyoro announced that he will resign if Waitutu resumes his duties as the Kiambu Governor.

The Deputy County Chief said his boss was a corrupt individual whom he wouldn’t wish to associate with.

Despite being elected together, Governor Waititu and his deputy have been locking horns over a myriad of issues.

Nyoro on several occasions accused Waititu of plundering county resources and stealing millions of shillings meant for development.

In July Waititu together with his wife were arreste over fraudulent acquisition of property and irregular awarding of tender involving the construction of roads.

The inquiry related to allegations of procurement of tender no CGK/RTPW/142/2017-18, awarded to M/S Testimony Enterprises Limited, for the upgrading of various gravel roads to bituminous surface in Kiambu County.

According to the DPP then: “a total of Sh74.2 million has so far been paid to the contractor. The company has therefore been paid Sh221.4 million, inclusive of the Sh147 million.”

The DPP said part of the funds were used by Saika Two Estate Developers Limited to purchase Bieneveu Delta Hotel Limited owned by Waititu and his wife,  Susan Wangari.

Waititu and the wife spent days in jail and were released on Ks15 million and Ksh4 million cash bail respectively.
