Prior to the 2-2 draw with Newcastle on Saturday, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has stated that his team cannot afford to lose another league match.

The Spaniard has seen his side lose three times this season in the league and the team is currently in a bad run of form, winning just once in their last five matches in all competitions. Defensively City has not kept a clean sheet in their last five matches.

The draw to Newcastle must have felt like a loss to Pepe Guardiola who saw his team take the lead twice only to surrender it in a couple of minutes on both occasions.

Interestingly, City will equal their longest winless run under Pep Guardiola. Already 11 points behind Liverpool in the table, the title race feels like its swinging more in the Reds favor.

Pep, however, maintains that his team has to get back to winning ways before thinking about Liverpool.

“In the situation, we are [in] we cannot think about the people in front. We have to think about what we have to do to win games. We have to try to be more solid with the chances we have and the chances we concede,” he said ahead of the match.

Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan will miss Tuesday’s clash because of suspension.

City remains without injured forward Sergio Aguero, who won’t be fit for Saturday’s derby against United either.

Aguero has a thigh injury, and manager Pep Guardiola said: “He is not ready for the derby but after the derby, we will see.”

The match kicks off at 11.15 PM East African Time.
